Lee County's vegetative waste processing operation provides a means for managing yard waste in a manner that reduces disposal needs. Incoming trucks are directed to the designated area to unload; staff later segregates the yard waste from non-processible materials such as treated wood and stockpiles the yard waste for processing.

A contractor grinds the yard waste to meet certain size specifications, after which Lee County staff hauls the mulch to use for compost production. Additional mulch is delivered to five sites throughout Lee County for free use by residents.
