About Dunbar-Jupiter Hammon Library:
This library is home to the largest African-American book collection in Southwest Florida.
The Dunbar-Jupiter Hammon Library was the dream of five African-American housewives and mothers who lived in the Dunbar Community. These five women started the library in order to make available African-American books and materials that would provide them with information on African-American history. The name honors the first African poet to have his work published as well as the community's name, Dunbar.
Friends of Dunbar-Jupiter Hammon Library:
The Friends of the Dunbar-Jupiter Hammon Library group is a non-profit, volunteer organization that helps library staff raise awareness of the library’s cultural and educational assets in the community by enhancing programming and services through the development of supplemental financial resources. Resources are made possible through membership fees, donations, fund raising events, book sales and grants from outside organizations.
