Reading, Learning and Connecting
The Lee County Library System’s Summer Reading Program helps children maintain reading skills, introduces families to new learning experiences and inspires people of all ages to discover something new. Each summer, readers come together through books, programs, challenges and activities designed to spark curiosity and encourage lifelong learning.
2026 Summer Reading by the Numbers
Reading
  • 13,385 readers participated
    +2.2% increase from 2025
  • 3,513 online challenges completed
  • 9,872 paper challenges completed
  • 14,661 free books distributed to children and teens
Programs & Events
  • 486 library programs offered
  • 19,228 program attendees
    +7.2% increase from 2025
  • 11 kickoff celebrations welcomed 3,989 participants
Community Outreach
  • 107 outreach visits brought Summer Reading to camps, community centers, parks and other locations.
  • 13,069 people were reached through outreach programming.
Teen Summer of Service
  • Teen Summer of Service gives teens an opportunity to earn community service hours while supporting local organizations.
  • 784 volunteer service hours completed
  • 287 community service projects completed
  • 3 organizations supported
