Experts agree that reading 1000 books with your child before Kindergarten helps create a solid foundation for children as they begin to read themselves. Encourage a love of reading in your kids by sharing books every day with our 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program.

Here are the easy steps for participation:

  1. Pick up a Dive Into Reading Sheet at your closest library.

  2. Read together!

  3. Fill in a bubble on your Dive Into Reading Sheet for each book you read. If you read a book more than once, you can record it each time. Books read at storytime, at daycare, or by others to your child also count!

  4. When you finish 100 books, bring your Dive Into Reading Sheet to the library and tell the librarian about the books you enjoyed. Collect your next Dive Into Reading Sheet and keep reading!

  5. Repeat Steps 2-4 until your child has finished reading 1000 books.

Take every chance you have to read with your children. Tell and talk about stories. Sing nursery rhymes and songs and attend library programs. By reading just three stories a day, you and your child will have read over 1000 books in one year. You will also have shared many special moments along the way. Happy reading!
