Covid-19 testing is widely available in Lee County from many providers, each with its own scheduling and registration process. Learn more about getting tested for COVID-19, the types of tests available, and where you can go to receive a test below.

When to get tested for COVID-19

Exposure to someone with suspected or confirmed COVID-19 - Get a COVID-19 test 3-5 days following known exposure. Communicate with your doctor about quarantining and when to get retested.

Experiencing COVID-19 Symptoms - Get a COVID-19 test immediately if you are currently experiencing symptoms of COVID-19. Communicate with your doctor about quarantining and when to get retested. 

Types of COVID-19 tests

  1. PCR Test (nasal swab) - Considered the gold standard of COVID tests and can detect whether you’re actively infected. Results are typically available between 48-72 hours after taking the test.
  2. COVID-19 Rapid Antigen (nasal or throat swab) - Can also detect whether you’re actively infected, but negative results should be confirmed through PCR. Results are typically available the same day you take the test.
  3. Antibody testing (blood test) - Will show if you have antibodies toward a coronavirus, but it can’t confirm an active infection. Results are typically available within 72 hours of taking the test. 


Testing for COVID-19 is offered for free at the Florida Department of Health offices and many other testing locations. Pricing may vary by provider, call to confirm pricing and availability before visiting a testing location.

At Home Testing Kits 
At-home testing kits are available for purchase online and in retail pharmacies.

U.S Postal Service
The U.S. Postal Service is offering a program to mail at-home testing kits directly to those who request the tests. Up to four tests per household can be requested and will be mailed directly to your home at no cost. To sign up to receive the at-home kits visit
