Lee County Social Media Public Comment Policy

Lee County's official social media pages are maintained by the County's Communications Department for the purpose of informing the public about County services, promoting community events, and sharing official announcements and information. These pages represent Lee County's government speech and are designated as nonpublic forums. As such, Lee County retains full editorial control over the content published on its platforms.

By default, Lee County will disable comments on its social media where possible.

If commenting is enabled on a specific post, that post shall be treated as a limited public forum. In that case, comments will be subject to content-neutral moderation, including the removal of any content that is obscene, violent, threatening, or pornographic in nature, or that compromises the safety or security of the public or public systems.

Lee County shall not be liable for the content of comments posted by members of the public to any Lee County social media site.

All content on any Lee County social media site, including public comments, is subject to disclosure under Ch. 119 of the Florida Statutes.

Members of the public who have questions or concerns about any post or content shared through the County's social media platforms are encouraged to contact the Lee County Office of Community Engagement at socialmedia@leegov.com
