LEE COUNTY UTILITIES (LCU)
YACHT CLUB COLONY WATER SYSTEM REHABILITATION


          A second public hearing will be held to adopt a Resolution to commence construction of the YACHT CLUB COLONY DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM REHABILITATION project. On May 7, 2012, Lee County was appointed receiver of the Bayshore Utility Company, a private water company providing water service to the Yacht Club Colony subdivision. The water system was constructed originally in the late 1950s and needs to be replaced.
          Lee County Utilities (LCU) has designed the water rehabilitation project to improve the potable water quality and fire protection within the subdivision. Project improvements include installation of potable water lines, abandonment, removal and disposal of existing pipe, and connection to an existing water main at Winston Road.
          The project is located in the Yacht Club Colony Subdivision, north of the Caloosahatchee River, south of Daughtrey's Creek, west of the Caloosahatchee National Wildlife Refuge and east of Blazier Drive.
          The boundaries of the improved area affected are:

          The water system construction costs will be funded from LCU reserves and after construction, LCU will be reimbursed by the Yacht Club Colony benefitted property owners through an assessment. The total project cost is estimated to be $1,546,284.00. Each benefitted property within the Project boundary, as defined herein, will be charged the total assessment for project costs, estimated to be $7,434, and the Water Connection Fee of $1,000 per property, for a total financing option of $8,434. Property owners will also be required to pay a Meter Drop-in Fee of $260 due at the time of connection. If a property owner chooses to finance the assessment and the water connection fee, then the estimated cost to the property would be $10,469.30 (including interest) which can be paid in annual installments of $525.80 for a period of 20 years not to exceed 2.2% per annum. The final assessment will be based on actual construction costs and may be different from the estimated assessment contained herein.
          The second public hearing will take place on Tuesday, the 21st day of October, 2014, at 9:30 a.m. at the Lee County Board of County Commissioners Chambers in the Old Lee County Courthouse, 2nd Floor, 2120 Main Street, Fort Myers, FL.
