L.E.E. - Learn to Earn

The award-winning L.E.E. Program offers a free, 7-month Medical Office Skills job training program that covers subjects including:

  • Medical and Dental Terminology
  • Microsoft Office Computer Applications
  • Medical Front Office Operations
  • Customer Service
  • Basic Billing & Coding
  • Electronic Medical Records

Also included is one year of case management with a L.E.E. Program Coordinator, resume writing and interview skills training, as well as additional training necessary to prepare for entry into a medical front office career. The primary goal of the program is for participants to begin a search for full-time medical office employment prior to graduation.

The L.E.E. Program is designed to rapidly produce a substantial increase in work earnings for low-income working individuals by teaching the skills needed to work at the front desk of a doctor's office, a medical facility, or in medical records.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Lee County resident
  • Age 18 or older
  • Low-income working household
  • Provide proof of earned income
  • Provide proof of a high school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Able to pass a criminal background check for medical employment
  • Pass a basic entrance exam
  • Willing to search for and accept full time employment in the Medical Office field prior to graduation
  • Willing to work closely with a Case Manager for one year

Eligible Participants Receive:

  • Paid tuition
  • Books
  • Supplies
  • May receive assistance with childcare during class and other support services

Class Schedule:

Classes are held Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in Fort Myers.


The L.E.E. Program was honored in May 2002, with a Public Service Excellence Award bestowed by the Public Employees Roundtable in Washington, D.C.
