When the system detects lightning within 10 miles of the facility, the air horns sound an uninterrupted 15-second blast and the strobe light will activate. Park patrons who hear the horn and/or see the light need to seek shelter immediately. When the system no longer detects a threat, three 5-second blasts from the horn will sound and the strobe light will stop working. This is the signal that it is safe to return outdoors. No system is fool-proof. Park visitors should always assess weather conditions before going outside and always be prepared to take the appropriate action needed to ensure one's safety. *If the connection is DOWN, please follow the National Weather Service 30/30 rule until it is restored.* History The North Fort Myers Community Pool was built in April 1960 and holds 227,500 gallons of water. The pool was resurfaced in the summer of 2000 and deck lights were added for night swims. Recent renovations included new expanded deck and seating area with several new shade canopies. Thanks to a grant from Lee County Public Safety and the state Dept of Health we are now AED equipped and we also have a pool lift to allow for ADA accommodations for those patrons who need assistance with entering the pool. The Lifeguard staff is certified through StarFish Aquatic Institute and maintains their certification annually.
