The Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic® is an event that offers men’s and women’s NCAA Division III softball and baseball teams, as well as NAIA softball teams an opportunity to participate in regular season games during their respective “Spring Breaks.” More than 100 teams come from many of the cold weather states and represent the National Collegiate Athletic Association - Division III, and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. The event was established by Gene Cusic 26 years ago. It began with only 11 teams competing and now serves as a memorial to Gene’s legacy.
The event competition starts the end of February and continues through March. In addition, game umpires from all over the United States come to the area to provide their expert services for the event. The athletes, umpires and their families stay at our local hotels, visit our local restaurants, attractions/entertainment and beaches daily, creating a great economic impact for Lee County.
