Minnesota Twins Host Pet Adoption Day

FORT MYERS, FL (March 14, 2008) – Special pets in the care of Lee County Animal Services soon will have a day to meet the public and potential new families at the Minnesota Twins vs. the Philadelphia Phillies game on March 21, 2008.  Both the game and adoption event will take place at the Lee County Sports Complex.  Gates will open at 10 am for visitors to arrive and meet the pets.  The game begins at 1:05 pm.

Among the pets looking for new homes are nine small special-needs dogs surrendered by a breeder who was no longer able to provide proper care.  Also ready to meet a new family will be "Nike," a puppy who was a recent cruelty victim.  These dogs will need experienced owners who understand the special care they will need.  In order to find the best home for each pet, Animal Services staff will accept applications for these special-needs pets for one week beginning March 21st.

In addition to the special needs pets, Animal Services will have other dogs and cats that can be adopted the day of the Minnesota Twins game on March 21st.

Lost pets and pets for adoption may be viewed online at www.leelostpets.com.  The shelter is open for adoptions and claiming lost pets from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday; 10:00 am to 6:00 pm Tuesday; and 10:00 am to 3:00 pm Saturday.  For more information call 239-533-7387 (LEE-PETS).
