Public Information Workshop Scheduled For the Value (Variable) Pricing Study for Sanibel Causeway

Fort Myers, FL, January 21, 2008– The Lee County Department of Transportation (LC DOT) will conduct a public information workshop concerning the Value (Variable) Pricing Study for Sanibel Causeway from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, February 26, 2008 at the Sanibel Recreation Center, 3880 Sanibel-Captiva Road, Sanibel, Florida.

For the past several years Lee County has been concerned with peak hour congestion on the County's toll facilities connecting the mainland with the barrier islands.  LC DOT's study goal is to determine if there is a feasible value (variable) pricing strategy that will successfully manage the peak hour congestion on the Sanibel Causeway.  Because usage of the Sanibel Causeway differs from that of other facilities (traditional a.m. and p.m. peak traffic), LC DOT is using an innovative approach that engages the public in an ongoing dialogue about the most realistic method to lessen the congestion.  Focus group meetings have already been conducted with Sanibel and Lee County businesses and residents to assist in the development of initial alternative ideas for public discussion. As an example, one scenario would offer a discounted toll to transponder holders for traveling in the off-peak ´shoulder hours'.  This is one potential alternative being considered, more alternatives will be presented at the public information workshop.

This public information workshop is being held to present these initial alternative ideas to the public and to solicit input which will lead to the selection of two alternatives for further, in-depth analysis.

Lee County is inviting interested parties and the public to attend a workshop where they may view the initial analysis and alternative ideas for value (variable) pricing and give comment on those ideas and the study.   Representatives from Lee County will be available to discuss the project, answer questions and receive input.  The workshop will be conducted in an "open house" format; no formal presentation will be given.  You may attend anytime between 4:30 – 6:30 p.m.

Anyone needing special accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 should contact Kris Cella at kcella@cella.cc or phone (239) 337-1071 prior to the workshop.  If you have any questions about the project or would like information prior to the workshop, contact Ms. Cella.
