Dead Man Meets Life Saver

Fort Myers, FL  (2/21/08)-A visiting New York man had no life signs when paramedics arrived at his Florida home a year ago, and stayed that way long enough to be considered dead. Now he's returned to Fort Myers to honor those who brought him back to life.

Thomas Schulenberg and his wife, Barbara, will honor the Lee County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) team at the EMS office on Six Mile Cypress Friday, Feb. 22, 2008 at 10 a.m. He calls his last year of life a "gift" and wants to thank those who give it to him.

According to the EMS report, despite more than 30 minutes of CPR, shocks, drugs and artificial breathing, the Paramedic and EMT were unable to bring him back to life and the Emergency Room physician authorized them to give up.

Paramedic Scott McDill and Emergency Medical Technician Jodi Plimpton did not give up and in the next 10 minutes brought him back to life and transported him to the Emergency Room at Cape Coral Hospital. Also noteworthy is Schulenberg suffered no brain damage from the incident.
