First St/Seaboard St to Fowler St Motorists Should Expect Intermittent Delays
Feb 18, 2008 PRESS RELEASE Paving work on First Street Seaboard Street to Fowler Street Fort Myers, FL, February 18, 2008 – This week crews will be paving First Street (SR 80) from Seaboard Street to Fowler Street. Crews will begin paving the north lane of First Street at Billy's Creek Bridge and move west to Fowler Street. Once the northbound lane is complete, crews will pave the south lane of First Street from Fowler Street east to Billy's Creek Bridge. When all asphalt is complete west of Billy's Creek Bridge, the paving operation will move to the east side of Billy's Creek Bridge. Crews will pave the north side of First Street from Seaboard Street west to Billy's Creek Bridge and return on the south side paving from the Billy's Creek Bridge east to Seaboard Street. During the paving work, one westbound travel lane on First Street will be maintained. Motorists crossing First Street from Seaboard Street to Fowler Street may experience lengthy intermittent delays of up to 20 minutes while the paving operation on First Street passes each side street and driveway to the north and south of First Street. Motorists traveling north on Park Avenue may also experience lengthy delays as the paving operation crosses Park Avenue at First Street. Intermittent closures at Park Avenue are anticipated to occur only once or twice per day, and only during off-peak hours (9 a.m. – 3 p.m.). This paving operation is part of the final steps needed to complete First Street from Fowler Street to Seaboard Street. The intermittent closures will allow workers to achieve maximum paving quality and ride-ability as well as maintain optimum safety for motorists and construction workers. The Fort Myers Police Department and construction flagging personnel will be on hand to assist with traffic control at side streets and driveways, specifically Park Avenue and Fowler Street. Motorists are asked to have patience and to drive with caution, courtesy, and common sense as they travel through the work zone and crews complete the paving work in this area. |
