Lee County Homeless Coalition Blanket Drive

On any given night in Lee County there are an estimated 2,000 persons without a place to call home. The Lee County Homeless Coalition consists of community-based and faith-based service providers, local businesses, persons who are
currently experiencing or who have experienced homelessness, and other advocates committed to supporting the mission of the Coalition. While working to eradicate chronic homelessness, the Coalition stands ready to aid and educate those at serious risk of becoming homeless.

EVENT: Help the Homeless Month, January 2008

On December 29, 2007, Florida Governor Charlie Crist signed a proclamation observing January 2008 as Help the Homeless Month. The proclamation mentions the number of homeless, the effects on various populations, and the
demand placed on social and economic resources. The proclamation states "the solution of the issue of homelessness requires that all citizens become involved In helping their neighbors in need through the donation of their time, talents, and resources….".

PROJECT: Blanket Drive
The Lee County Homeless Coalition is looking for ways to promote the Governor's message and several agencies that work with the homeless are in need of blankets, especially this time of the year. The Homeless Coalition is asking if your congregation, group, club, or other organization can donate new blankets. Please drop the blankets off at the following agencies:

CCMI Soup Kitchen
3429 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd.
Fort Myers, FL 33916

The Salvation Army
2400 Edison Avenue
Fort Myers, FL 33901

Southwest Florida Addictions Services
