"New Year" for Lee County's Mobile Spay/Neuter Clinic!

Fort Myers, Florida, 01/01/2008-This truly will be a "New Year" for Lee County Animal Services' mobile spay/neuter clinic known as the Spay Station.  The Spay Station currently travels to all parts of the county offering pet sterilization services to low-income owners.  For owners who have a financial need the fee is $20 and for those on public assistance the service is free.  A rabies vaccination, county license, and microchip ID are included in addition to the sterilization.

The county first launched the Spay Station in February 2007.  In 2008 the following will be new features.

New Funding Source - Lee County Animal Services is the recipient of a Florida Animal Friend License Plate Grant.  The specialty plates cost $25 in addition to the standard Florida tag.  The revenue generated from the sale of license plates is distributed to non-profit organizations and governmental agencies around the state for spay/neuter programs.  Lee County received $20,000 to help stretch its current funding and allow pet owners on public assistance to qualify for free pet sterilization.  For more information about the Florida Animal Friend License Plate visit www.floridaanimalfriend.org

New Look - The vehicle is now sporting space-themed graphics.  To view the new look visit Animal Services' website at www.leelostpets.com or you might just notice it in route to its next surgery site.

New Schedule - In February 2007 the Spay Station services were limited to only once a month.  By year end it was on the road two days a week.  Beginning in 2008 the mobile clinic will be providing sterilizations three day per week!  The agency's goal for the year will be to spay or neuter 3,000 pets through the low-cost service.

New Phone Number – Animal Services now has a new phone number, (239) 533-7387 (Lee-Pets).  For more information, or to schedule an appointment, callers will simply select the option for the Spay Station.  Previously callers were required to dial a separate number.

For more information about any of Lee County Animal Services programs or to view lost pets or pets for adoption, visit the agency's website at www.leelostpets.com or call (239) 533-7387.  Information regarding lost pets and pets for adoption updates hourly.
