Household Chemical Waste Collection  Saturday, December 1st, 2007 in Bonita Springs (Last Event For The 2007 Calendar Year)

FORT MYERS, Fla. (November 29, 2007) – The Lee County Solid Waste Division is holding a Household Chemical Waste Collection on Saturday,  December 1st, 2007 from 8 AM to 2 PM, at the Naples/Fort Myers Greyhound Track in Bonita Springs, Florida.

This collection gives residents the opportunity to dispose of special waste that needs to stay out of the normal household waste stream. These items are pesticides, fertilizers, paints, thinners, paint strippers, polishers, pool chemicals, automotive fluids, batteries, fluorescent tubes, propane gas grill tanks, etc.  In short everything labeled POISON, CORROSIVE, FLAMMABLE, REACTIVE, TOXIC, and DANGEROUS.  Ammunition and flares are also accepted!

In addition, the Division also accepts frying oil (from turkey fryers).

Outdated or non-working computers, monitors, scanners, copiers, fax machines, televisions, stereos, video machines, microwave ovens, printers, and computer and telephone peripherals may be brought to the collection also.  These devices are known as E-WASTE and some contain significant amounts of environmental harmful materials.

White goods (stoves, refrigerators, washers, dryers, water-heaters, etc.) are not accepted! Call your hauling company to schedule a special pick-up.

The next Household Hazardous Waste Collection will be held in Cape Coral on January 26, 2008.  For current information on all programs visit @ lee-county.com/solidwaste.

The Solid Waste Division thanks all citizens for participating in this program and recognizes their efforts in keeping our environment safe and clean for generations to come.
