Annual LeeTran Roadeo - October 28, 2007
Oct 25, 2007 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE OCTOBER 25, 2007 How many people could drive a 35-foot bus through a slalom course, make a 90-degree turn backwards into a tight slot, then shoot through a lane of barrels with just six inches to spare? LeeTran drivers can! And they're set to prove it at the transit agency's annual Roadeo, on Sunday, October 28 from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the parking lot at Edison College. The public is invited to attend to watch the friendly, but fierce competition. Paratransit drivers kick off the action at 8 a.m., with fixed route bus drivers competing starting at 11 a.m. The winner in each division will represent Lee County at the annual state Roadeo in March. The course requires drivers to execute a number of intricate maneuvers, including aiming their tires to pass through a narrow aisle of tennis balls. Judges monitor each obstacle, scoring drivers on their precision and speed. There will be games and prizes for the kids, refreshments and door prizes. Spectators should come to the lot at the southeast corner of the Edison College campus on Sunday, October 28 to catch the action and support the county's professional bus and paratransit drivers.
