Public Information Workshop Scheduled For the Alico Road Connector Corridor Study

Fort Myers, FL, October 1, 2007– The Lee County Department of Transportation (LC DOT) will conduct a public information workshop for the Alico Road Connector Corridor Study.  The workshop will be held from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 4, 2007 at the Gateway Trinity Lutheran Church, 11381 Gateway Boulevard, Fort Myers.  The workshop will be conducted in an "open house" format; no formal presentation will be given.  You may attend the workshop anytime between 4:30 – 6:30 p.m.

The Alico Road Connector Corridor study area runs from the Southwest Florida International Airport boundary east to Green Meadows Road, and from Alico Road north of State Road  (SR) 82 to SW 40th Street.  The objective of this study is to assist the LC DOT in reaching a decision on the location and conceptual design for an alignment to relieve traffic and provide a transportation corridor between Alico Road and SR 82. The corridor extension study began with a wide range of potential alignments.  These alignment alternatives were presented at a public workshop held in April of this year.  After the workshop, the preliminary alignment alternatives were evaluated based on public comments, community and environmental impacts, costs for design and construction engineering inspection, right-of-way acquisition and construction and environmental mitigation costs.  Seven alignment alternatives were eliminated after reviewing the information.

At the workshop, the public may view display boards with detailed aerials of the four remaining alignments, environmental data for the study area, conceptual diagrams of the roadway and learn more information about the project.  Representatives from LC DOT will be available to discuss the project and answer questions.

Anyone needing special accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 should contact Kris Cella at kcella@cella.cc, or phone (239) 337-1071 prior to the workshop.  If you have any questions or would like information prior to the workshop, contact Ms. Cella.
