MEDSTARs Jim Pettit Completed Flight Paramedic Exam

Myers, Fla.- Lee County Emergency Medical Services MEDSTARs Jim Pettit of Cape Coral successfully completed the flight paramedic examination administered by the Board for Critical Care Transport Paramedic Certification. The flight paramedic certification (FP-C) process is focused on the knowledge level of accomplished, experienced paramedics currently associated with flight and critical care transport teams. The certified flight paramedic examination consists of 125 questions in categories that include trauma management, aircraft fundamentals, safety and survival, flight physiology, advanced airway management techniques, neurological emergencies, critical cardiac patient, respiratory patient, toxic exposures, obstetrical emergencies,neonates, pediatric, burn patients, and environmental. Candidates are provided 2.5 hours Lee County's MEDSTAR operates under the county's Division of Public Safety/Emergency Medical Services and augments the emergency medical services by providing air and critical care transport for the most critically ill and injured. Patients are typically transported by air when time is of the essence. Critical care patients are those patients that require transport between facilities with medications or control measures in place that are not within the current emergency protocols. Lee County established its air transport service in 1978 and was the first county-based rotor-wing operations in the country. Lee County MEDSTAR employs 13 critical care credentialled paramedics.
