Commissioner Bob Janes appointed 4th Term As Chair, NACo's Steering Committee on Health

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – National Association of Counties (NACo) President Eric Coleman has reappointed Lee County, Fla. Commissioner Bob Janes as chair of NACo's steering committee on health for 2007-08.  Coleman recently announced his presidential appointments during NACo's Annual Conference and Exposition in Richmond, Va.

"On behalf of the nation's 3,066 counties, I am pleased and grateful that Commissioner Bob Janes will be lending his talents and perspectives on important national health issues as a member of NACo's Health Steering Committee," said Coleman, commissioner, Oakland County, Michigan.

The Health steering committee is responsible for developing NACo policy regarding federal legislation and policy pertaining to health care delivery and financing including indigent care, health care for the uninsured, Medicaid, Medicare, long term care, local public health programs, mental health, substance abuse, and developmental disabilities. NACo's steering committees annually review and make recommendations to the NACo Board of Directors on public policy issues and federal legislation.  The policy development process initiated by the steering committees leads to the publication of the American County Platform, which NACo uses as a guide to deliver the county government message to the administration, Congress and the American public.

"I am excited to have been reappointed to serve as chair of the NACo steering committee on health by incoming NACo President Eric Coleman and will continue to be a strong advocate for prevention and access to health care services," said Commissioner Bob Janes.  Health care is a major issue locally, statewide and nationally.  "County governments have multiple responsibilities for health care and, as such, counties assume an essential role in the nation's health system and should be involved in any federal or state policy's decisions," Janes continued.

Appointed by four different incoming NACo Presidents, this will be Janes's fourth term serving as chair of the Health Steering Committee.

The National Association of Counties (NACo) is the only national organization that represents county governments in the United States.  Founded in 1935, NACo provides essential services to the nation's 3,066 counties.  NACo advances issues with a unified voice before the federal government, improves the public's understanding of county government, assists counties in finding and sharing innovative solutions through education and research, and provides value-added services to save counties and taxpayers money.  For more information about NACo, visit www.naco.org
