FREE JOB TRAINING

Lee County Human Services is looking for low-income, working individuals who would like to get free job training in medical front office skills.

Training is available through the Lee Education and Employment (L.E.E.) Program, and is funded by a Community Services Block Grant.  This program won a 2001 National Association of Counties Achievement Award for employment and training and was the only county program in the United States to win a 2002 Public Service Excellence Award.

Low-income working persons have the opportunity to raise their income and enter a new career at a medical facility in medical records, insurance billing or the front desk. The Medical Office Skills (certificate) Program includes keyboarding, computer applications, medical terminology, medical front office procedures, basic billing and coding, Medical Manager software, HIPAA training and CPR certification.

The 7-month program starts October 18, 2007, and will graduate in May 2008.  Telephone interviews will be taken now through October 12, 2007.  Applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis and the class fills up quickly. All applicants must be working, low income, provide proof of high school diploma or GED and pass a basic exam in reading, language and spelling.  Potential students must also pass a background screening.

Successful applicants must have reliable transportation to the classes which are held 6:30-9:30 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday nights at Lee High Tech Central.  The L.E.E. program covers all costs for tuition, books and childcare (during class hours) and assists with job placement.
