County Energy Conservation Equipment Nets $57,000 Rebate
Jul 12, 2007 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Pat Stott, Lee County Facilities Management COUNTY ENERGY CONSERVATION EQUIPMENT NETS $57,000 REBATE The county installed an energy-efficient, state-of-the-art ice storage cooling system at its most recently completed recreation center at Estero Community Park. Ice storage saves a lot of energy by making vats of ice during the night when electricity is plentiful and less expensive. During the day, the system provides chilled water by running it through the ice storage tanks using simple pumps to circulate the water to the buildings, providing cooling. Florida Power & Light presented a $57,000 check to the county representing the energy cost savings. The county has an "Energy Conservation, Green Building" initiative to reduce the cost and environmental impact of the local government by advancing energy efficiency and water conservation, promoting the use of distributed and renewable energy, and improving utility management decisions at county facilities. |
