Commissioner Janes Honored for Second Time "Presidential Advocacy Award"
Jul 2, 2007 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Nan Summerall Gonzalez "PRESIDENTIAL ADVOCACY AWARD" Commissioner Bob Janes Honored for Second Time Janes was first honored by FAC with the"2003 Presidential Advocacy Award" and recognized for his tireless efforts on bringing attention to human services and health care issues at the local, state and national levels of governments. The Florida Association of Counties, Inc. (FAC) represents Florida's 67 counties and 377 county commissioners. As the Chair of the Lee County Board of County Commissioners, he serves as the Human Services liaison and represents Lee County and FAC on the Florida Partners in Crisis as stakeholders in advocating improvements to Florida's mental health and substance abuse prevention and treatment system. Also, Janes has been named to represent counties on the Florida Substance Abuse and Mental Health Corporation, a non-profit corporation created by the Florida Legislature, this organization oversees the state's publicly funded substance abuse and mental health services. Bob Janes has an active background with the FAC serving as Vice Chair and Chair of the FAC Health and Human Services Policy Committee, and serving on the FAC Board of Directors. Currently, Janes is serving his third term as Chair of the Health Steering Committee for the National Association of Counties, Inc. (NACo) where he advocates health issues on the Federal level. Commissioner Bob Janes, Chair of the Lee County Board of County Commissioners, was elected to the Board of Lee County Commissioners in 2000 and 2004. His district includes Sanibel, Captiva, Outer Islands, Pine Island, Boca Grande and portions of Cape Coral. |
