Lee County Hires New VCB Director

LEE COUNTY HIRES NEW VCB DIRECTOR
 
FORT MYERS, Fla. (June 27, 2007) – Lee County Administration has hired Suya Davenport as the county's new Visitor & Convention Bureau (VCB) Director.
 
Davenport, who was raised in Lee County, has two decades of public- and private-sector experience in the tourism industry, including with the Lee County VCB, and holds a Bachelor's Degree in Marketing from the University of South Florida.  She has held management positions with LXR Luxury Resorts, Boca Resorts, The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, and the Lee County Port Authority.  She was a sales manager with the VCB from 1989 to 1992.
 
Davenport was forwarded to County Administration by a screening panel made up of Tourist Development Council members Fran Myers, Roxie Smith, and Colleen DePasquale; Lee County Businessman Dick Ackert; and Lee County Parks & Recreation Director John Yarbrough.  She will start Thursday, June 28. 

The Lee County Visitor & Convention Bureau is a county government department and has an annual budget of $10.9 million and 24 employees.  It promotes Lee County to targeted domestic and international visitors, including vacationers, special groups, the travel trade, business travelers and meeting planners.  The VCB also serves as the staff to the Lee County Tourist Development Council, which is the tourism advisory committee to the Board of Lee County Commissioners.
