LEE COUNTY CONTINUES PROGRESS ON PET-FRIENDLY SHELTERS

Ft. Myers, Fla.- The Lee County School Board will meet June 19, 2007 as the county takes another step toward establishing a pet-friendly shelter.

Lee County emergency managers in coordination with the Lee County School District and Lee County Animal Services have identified South Ft. Myers High School as the proposed site of the pet-friendly shelter. East Lee High School (scheduled to come on line in August 2007) is the proposed alternate or secondary pet-friendly shelter.

Once the agreement with the School Board is reached, Lee County Animal Services will develop guidelines for registration and shelter management. It is anticipated that the formal announcement and full promotion of the program can occur by early July 2007.
