Don Deberry Selected as Government Engineer of the Year
Jun 11, 2007 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Amy Davies, Lee County DOT, 479-8589 DON DEBERRY SELECTED AS GOVERNMENT ENGINEER OF THE YEAR FORT MYERS, FL (June 11, 2007) – The Florida Engineering Society has selected Don DeBerry as Government Engineer of Year. Don will receive his award at the Florida Engineering Society Calusa Chapter June dinner meeting to be held on Thursday, June 14, 2007 at the Fiddlesticks Country Club. This award is given each year to an engineer who has, by virtue of his/her service, had a significant positive impact on the engineering profession. The award is given in recognition of an individual that has established a consistent record of service over a long period of time and to the candidate that has a well-rounded record of achievement in education, employment, professional and public service activities. Don DeBerry is currently the Public Works Operations Manager in charge of the Design area for the Lee County Department of Transportation. He manages 18 employees directing a five year capital improvement budget of $500+ million as well as 90+ capital projects. Don is a graduate of Virginia Tech and holds a bachelors degree in agricultural engineering. He is a registered Civil Engineer in the State of Florida. According to Peter Pellerito, Vice-President and Pro-Tem President of the FES Calusa Chapter, "the 6 candidates that were nominated were well qualified and well known, but what tipped the scales in Don's favor is his tenacity to move public works projects forward in the face of opposition".
