United Way 211 Program Receives 'Friend to EMS' Award

May 20, 2007

The State Bureau of Emergency Medical Services announced that the United Way of Lee County's 211 program is the recipient of its 2007 Excellence in EMS "Friend to EMS" award. This award recognizes an individual (or organization) that is not employed with an EMS organization, but has successfully enhanced EMS through their partnership or promotion of EMS activities, such as, preparedness, injury prevention, and access to care.

Lee County EMS nominated the 211 program for its support with the Community Assistance Network. The purpose of the Community Assistance Network is to bridge the gap between those who call Lee County's public safety services for assistance and social service agencies who provide valuable programs to the residents and visitors of Lee County. The Community Assistance Network enables field providers to make social service referrals electronically, and the information is transferred to the United Way of Lee County. The United Way's 211 staff retrieves the referrals via secure servers, proceeds with the referral, and a 10-day follow-up. Once completed, feedback is shared with the field providers that submitted the referral.

The 211 program will receive its award during the July EMS State meetings in Orlando.
