Miracle players visits and baseball trivia contest @ your library!

FORT MYERS, FL, May 13, 2005 - Batter up for Lee County Library System's sophomore season of Join the Major Leagues @ your library! The Lee County Library is again teaming up with the American Library Association, Major League Baseball and the Fort Myers Miracle, to promote 21st century literacy skills @ your library.

In our rookie year, Lee County Library System hit one out of the ball park, as a Cape Coral - Lee County Library patron won the Grand Prize in this national contest: a trip to a World Series game. Another Cape Coral - Lee County Library patron took home a First Prize: a copy of "Promises to Keep," a book written by Jackie Robinson's daughter, Sharon, a program t-shirt and a poster featuring Jackie Robinson.

Library spokesperson Heather O'Connell explains a chance to score these prizes is as easy as answering baseball trivia questions like "What player has won a record seven MVP Awards?" "What team was originally the St. Louis Browns?" and  "How many umpires have been inducted to the National Baseball Hall of Fame?"

"The Join the Major Leagues @ your library program is designed to test players' 21st century information literacy skills using information resources @ your library. Starting May 25, just stop by any Lee County Library System location and pick up a copy of the Join the Major Leagues play book. There are four levels of play books for different age groups. Complete the questions and either mail your completed play book or return it to the library by September 1, 2005. Winners will be notified in October." O'Connell said.

Play books are also available online at www.ala.org/@yourlibrary/jointhemajorleagues
