LEE TV TO AIR PROGRAM ON EVERGLADES RESTORATION

Fort Myers, Fl. (April 23, 2007) – Lee TV, Lee County's government access channel, will begin airing a program about the massive Everglades restoration project begun in 2003.  The 30-year, $10.5 billion project will protect and restore historical natural flow ways to the famed "River of Grass" to ensure that Florida's future critical water needs are met.

The program, "Water's Journey: Restoring Hope", was produced by WEDU, Florida's public television station.  The program gives viewers a history of the changes made to the Everglades during the early development of South Florida.  The Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP) was designed to reverse those changes.

The hour-long program will air Mondays on Lee TV at 8:00 pm, channel 11 on the Comcast cable system and in Cape Coral on channel 16.

Filmmakers spent two years tracing the flow of water from the Kissimmee River to Florida Bay.  They also look at the various plans and public works that are part of the CERP project.

This program, plus other county information can be seen daily on Lee TV, channel 11 on the Comcast cable system, and channel 16 on the Time Warner system.  A broadcast schedule can be viewed on the county's Internet website at:  www.lee-county.com.  Click on Lee TV and then select Lee TV Schedule.  For more information, please contact Keith Smith, Division of Public Resources, at 335-2665.
