Board Approves Sewer Plant Expansion/Lehigh Road Resurfacing
May 10, 2005 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE FORT MYERS, Fla. (May 10, 2005) - The Board of Lee County Commissioners today approved the following items during its regular weekly meeting. They are: Three Oaks Plant - Authorized negotiations with Wharton-Smith Inc. to design and build a $19.5 million expansion of the Three Oaks Wastewater Treatment Plant from a capacity of 3 million gallons a day to 6 million gallons a day, with the ability to expand in the future to 9 million gallons a day. The design-build option, as opposed to separate companies doing the design and construction, has the potential to save the county $16.4 million from initial estimates. The project is scheduled to be completed in June 2007. Lehigh Roads - Approved a $256,002 change order to a contract with Ajax Paving Industries to pay 20 additional roads in Lehigh Acres (see complete list at end of this release). Pine Manor - Approved site improvements of $57,643 to Pine Manor Community Center, including landscaping, irrigation, fencing and clearing of two vacant lots. Grant - Applied for a Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) Child Mental Health Initiative grant to develop a partnership between public and non-profit entities for a Lee Integrated Network for Kids (LINK). Multicultural Board - Set a June 14, 5 p.m. public hearing for an ordinance to establish a Multicultural Affairs Advisory Board. Imperial Widening - Approved a resolution of necessity to acquire and condemn parcels for the second phase of the Imperial Street Widening Project (Imperial River north to just south of East Terry Street).
