Public Info Workshop for Alico Rd Connector April 10
Apr 6, 2007 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Fort Myers, FL, April 6, 2007– The Lee County Department of Transportation (LC DOT) will conduct a public information workshop for the Alico Road Connector Corridor Study. The workshop will be held from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 10, 2007 at the Gateway Trinity Lutheran Church, 11381 Gateway Boulevard, Fort Myers. The workshop will be conducted in an "open house" format; no formal presentation will be given. You may attend the workshop anytime between 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. The Alico Road Connector Corridor study area runs from the Southwest Florida International Airport boundary east to Green Meadow Road, and from Alico Road north of State Road 82 (SR 82) to SW 40th Street. The objective of this study is to assist the LC DOT in reaching a decision on the location and conceptual design for an alignment that is economically efficient and environmentally sound to relieve traffic and provide a transportation corridor between Alico Road and SR 82. Several alternatives are being developed that will meet future travel demand and attempt to minimize impacts to the community and the natural environment. After this public information workshop, the preliminary alternatives will be compared based on community and environmental impacts, costs for design and construction engineering inspection, right-of-way acquisition, construction and environmental mitigation. Some alternatives will then be eliminated based on these comparisons. Public comment and sentiment will also be considered during the screening process and will be accepted throughout the project, and at the additional workshop that will be held later on in the year as the study progresses. Finally, after assessing public comment received from the final workshop, the preferred alternative will be submitted to the Lee County Board of County Commissioners for approval. At the workshop, the public may view display boards with detailed aerials of the potential alignments, environmental data for the study area, conceptual diagrams of the roadway and learn more information about the project. Representatives from LC DOT will be available to discuss the project and answer questions. Anyone needing special accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 should contact Kris Cella at kcella@cella.cc, or phone (239) 337-1071 prior to the workshop.
