Utilities Wins Three FDEP Operations Excellence Awards
Mar 19, 2007 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Patricia DiPiero, Lee County Utilities LEE COUNTY UTILITIES WINS THREE FDEP 2006 OPERATIONS EXCELLENCE AWARDS FORT MYERS, Fla. (March 19, 2007) – Lee County Utilities is proud to announce winning three out of the eleven 2006 Operations Excellence Awards given by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) for water and wastewater facilities from around the state. The Class "B" Drinking Water Facility category was won by the Pinewoods Water Treatment Facility. In the category of Type 1 Domestic Wastewater Facilities both the Fiesta Village Advanced Wastewater Treatment Facility and the Ft. Myers Beach Wastewater Treatment Facility won for the south district. This award is given annually to recognize those facilities throughout the state that have demonstrated excellence in operation, maintenance, innovative treatment, pollution prevention, and conservation. The award is based on such criteria as compliance history for the last two years, record keeping and reporting, customer relations, outstanding operation and maintenance practices, along with facility operations such as staff training and safety equipment training. The managers, lead operators, and the staff from each facility will be recognized for this great accomplishment at the Lee County Board of County Commissioners meeting on March 20, 2007 at 9:30a.m. The Florida Department of Environmental Protection is the lead agency in state government for environmental management and stewardship.
