Feb 28, 2007 For Immediate Release LEE TV TO AIR PROGRAM ON WILDFIRE PROTECTION FOR HOMEOWNERS Fort Myers, Fl. (February 28, 2007) – Lee TV, Lee County's government access channel, will begin airing a video to help Florida homeowners understand wildfires and what steps they can take to protect their homes. The program, "Living on the Edge in Florida", was produced by the Florida Division of Forestry. It will air Thursdays on Lee TV at 8:30 pm, channel 11 on the Comcast cable system and in Cape Coral on channel 16. The video looks at a number of wildland/urban interface fire issues including, wildfire hazard construction, home construction, landscaping, and creating fire-free buffer zones around your home. Florida experiences the second highest number of wildfires in the nation. Last year, a number of homes were destroyed in Lehigh Acres during a large fire event. The Division of Forestry uses the Firewise Communities program to educate homeowners and Public Safety professionals on how to protect homes and property from this common occurrence. Forestry officials say homeowners must become partners in fire protection.
