Feb 21, 2007

For Immediate Release

Feb. 21, 2007

Boaters who use the ramp at the Pine Island Commercial Marina (formerly known as the Fisherman's Coop) now must pay a parking fee of $5.

Lee County Parks & Recreation began collecting the fee, which is standard at its county ramps, on Feb. 17, the one-year anniversary of county ownership of the ramp. The Pine Island Commercial Marina is on the west side of Pine Island with access to Pine Island Sound and the barrier islands. The ramp is located at 6001 Maria Drive, St. James City, FL 33956.

Lee County employees will be at the ramp to collect the fee and issue receipts. Current Lee County Parks & Recreation vehicle decals will be honored. Violators will be ticketed.

The ramp is open to recreational boaters on Saturdays, Sundays and county-recognized holidays. Monday through Friday the facility is designated for commercial use only.

Two other county-owned boat ramps are in the Greater Pine Island area and are open seven days a week. Both have a $5 fee for parking a vehicle and trailer:
Bokeelia Boat Ramp, 7290 Barrancas Ave. N.W., Bokeelia, FL 33922
Matlacha Park, 4577 Pine Island Road N.W., Matlacha, FL 33993
