Lee Issues More Than 300 Residential Permits

(Jan. 5, 2006) – Builders in unincorporated Lee County, Bonita Springs and Fort Myers Beach pulled 305 permits for single-family houses in January, about 4 percent more than in December and 52 percent less than in January 2006. The value of permits for single-family homes was $88.3 million in January, compared to $91.2 million in December and $155.9 million in January 2006. About 77 percent of the single-family home permits were for construction in Lehigh Acres, valued at about $52.4 million. Also in January, permits were issued for 224 multi-family units with a combined value of $30.1 million. Commercial permitting in January was valued at nearly $12 million from 22 permits. In the first month of this year, Lee County issued 2,981 building permits valued at approximately $286.4 million. Lee County Community Development oversees planning, zoning, and development services, such as permitting, development and environmental review, building inspection and code enforcement in the unincorporated areas of the county and permitting services for Bonita Springs and Fort Myers Beach.
