Animal Care Trust Offers to Match Pets with Owners of Pets Lost in Fire
Jan 18, 2007 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE MEDIA CONTACT: Animal Care Trust Offers to Match Homeless Pets with Owners of Pets Lost in Fire Fort Myers, Florida, 1/18/07-The Lee County Animal Care Trust Fund is offering complementary adoptions to those owners whose pets were victims of the Groomingdale's fire on January 15. A fire set in the probation office on Commercial Drive across from the Edison Mall spread to Groomingdale's which has a boarding kennel for dogs. Seven dogs died in the fire. "We know we cannot replace their pets," said Samantha Syoen, President of the Animal Care Trust Fund, "but we would like to help them heal when the time is right. When they feel they are ready for another pet, they can choose one from Lee County Animal Services shelter and the cost of the adoption will be covered by the Trust Fund." All dog and cat adoptions from Lee County Animal Services include spay or neuter surgery, age appropriate vaccinations, heartworm test for dogs over six months, feline aids and leukemia test for cats, flea treatment, worming, microchip ID, county license for pets three months and over, and a training DVD. The Animal Care Trust Fund was established in 2002 to assist homeless, abused and neglected animals. The fund provides for affordable spay/neuter, care, education, direct assistance and other programs to improve animal care and welfare. Some of the programs the fund was established to assist include: spay/neuter programs for low income and disadvantaged pet owners, assistance in the care and placement of abused animals, permanent microchip identification programs for pets, disaster preparedness for animals, early-age spay/neuter education, pet adoption, and emergency veterinary medical assistance for disadvantaged pet owners. Lee County Animal Services provides animal control services throughout Lee County and operates an animal shelter to house stray and abandoned domestic animals. It also administers low-cost spay/neuter programs, educational initiatives, and rabies and bite case control programs.
