Fort Myers, FL, Jan. 12, 2007 – The Sanibel Causeway navigation channel for Bridge A, the drawbridge, will be closed on Wednesday, January 17th from 7:00 a.m. through 6:00 p.m.  This closure is necessary to remove the wood forms that were used to pour the new bridge deck.

On Thursday, January 18th from 7:00 a.m. through 6:00 p.m., the navigation channel at Bridge C (bridge closest to Sanibel) will be closed to set the girders over the channel for the new bridge.

The construction activity is taking place in the navigation channels and will be hazardous to the boating traffic. For the safety of the public and the workers, these channels will be closed between the above hours.

There will be a safety zone established around the channels, no boaters will be allowed within 500' of the work zone and the coastguard will enforce this.

BOATERS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PASS UNDER ANY PART OF BRIDGE A (THE DRAWBRIDGE) ON WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 17TH FROM 7:00 A.M. THROUGH 6:00 P.M. OR UNDER ANY PART OF BRIDGE C ON THURSDAY, JANUARY 18TH FROM 7:00 A.M. THROUGH 6:00 P.M, AS THE WAKE IS DANGEROUS TO THE WORKERS.

It is imperative that boaters use an alternative route. We appreciate your patience and consideration to this safety issues during this brief inconvenience.
