Public Information Workshop Scheduled for Burnt Store Rd Widening
Nov 30, 2006 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Kaye Molnar, Cella Molnar & Associates, Inc. Fort Myers, FL, November 30, 2006 – Lee County Department of Transportation (LC DOT) is holding a public information workshop for the Burnt Store Road Widening project from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, December 5, 2006 at the German American Social Club, 2101 SW Pine Island Road, Cape Coral, FL. LC DOT is inviting the public to view plans for the new Burnt Store Road corridor from Pine Island Road to Kismet Parkway anytime between the hours of 5 - 7 p.m. Representatives from Lee County will be available to discuss the project and answer questions. The meeting will be conducted in an "open house" format; no formal presentation will be given. Existing Burnt Store Road from Pine Island Road to Kismet Parkway typically consists of a two-lane undivided rural roadway which contains one ten-foot travel lane in each direction. Currently, no bicycle or pedestrian facilities exist along the roadway. This existing two-lane roadway will be maintained as a local road, or a frontage road. A new four-lane roadway, adjacent to the east side of existing Burnt Store Road, is being designed that will allow for future expansion to six lanes. The new Burnt Store Road mainline will ultimately consist of three travel lanes in each direction. On the east side of the new roadway, a detached multi-use path, similar to the path adjacent to Veteran's Parkway will be added. Lighting will be added to major intersections. The new Burnt Store Road mainline will have limited access with no full median openings. Access to the new roadway from adjacent neighborhoods will be limited to right turns only. Streets that currently intersect with Burnt Store Road may no longer have direct access to the roadway and neighborhood streets will need to be utilized to access the new Burnt Store Road mainline. The public is encouraged to attend this workshop and view the design plans. Anyone needing special accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 should contact Kaye Molnar at kmolnar@cella.cc or phone 239-337-1071.
