Lee Veterans Day Celebrations Include Full Line-Up of Events
Nov 3, 2006 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: LEE VETERANS DAY CELEBRATIONS INCLUDE FULL LINE-UP OF EVENTS FORT MYERS, Fla. (November 3, 2006) – Lee County Government is joining forces again with other public-sector and private organizations to produce the countywide Eighth Annual Veterans Day Celebration, "Veterans…You Are Amercia." The celebration will be Saturday, Nov. 11 in Cape Coral and Fort Myers. The events scheduled on both sides of the Caloosahatchee River are: Cape Coral 10-11 a.m. – Veterans Day Parade along S.E. 47th Terrace in Cape Coral. Parade route starts at S.E. 9th Place and ends at S.E. 15th Avenue. 11-11:30 a.m. – Veterans Day Post-Parade Ceremonies, Big John's Parking Lot at the Cape Coral Town Center. Fort Myers across the Midpoint Memorial Bridge, ending back at Royal Palm Square. The Midpoint Memorial Bridge will be closed to motorists from 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. 7:30 – 10:30 p.m. – Veterans Day Dance at Riverside Community Center, 3061 East Riverside Dr. in Fort Myers. Veterans/active duty personnel FREE; others $5. Grand Marshal of the Veterans Day Parade: Cadet Colonel Christine Quinones, JROTC, Cadet Brigade Commander, School District of Lee County. Cadet Colonel Christine Quinones is the highest ranking cadet in the Lee County JROTC program. She is the Brigade Commander for the over 2000 students enrolled in JROTC. Cadet Quinones is a senior in the Fort Myers High School International Baccalaureate program where she has achieved a current GPA of 4.72. She is a member of the National Honor Society and has participated in JROTC for the past four years. Cadet Quinones is the commander of the award winning color guard, a member of the state champion drill team, and served on the battalion staff as the operations officer. She has been active in various JROTC school and community service projects to include adopt a park, as a reading mentor for elementary school children, and supervising junior cadets supporting home football games. Upon graduation, she hopes to attend a four year college on a Navy four-year ROTC scholarship, study meteorology, and achieve her goal of becoming an ensign in the U.S. Navy.
