Reception Nov. 7 to Say Farewell to Two County Commissioners

RECEPTION NOV. 7 TO SAY FAREWELL TO TWO COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
 
FORT MYERS, Fla. (October 30, 2006) – Lee County will hold a reception to say farewell to leaving Commissioners Doug St. Cerny and John Albion on Tuesday, November 7 prior to the regularly scheduled Board of County Commissioners meeting. 

The reception will begin at 8:30 a.m. in the first floor main lobby of the Old County Courthouse, 2120 Main Street in downtown Fort Myers.  The regularly scheduled Board meeting will begin between 9:30 a.m. and 10 a.m.  Commissioners St. Cerny and Albion will be asked to say a few comments to the crowd between 9:15 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. 

The public is invited to attend. 

The two commissioners have served a combined 30+ years on the Board of Lee County Commissioners, both with long tenures. 

Commissioner St. Cerny served from March 1990 to November 2006. 

Commissioner Albion served from November 1992 to November 2006. 

Commissioner St. Cerny will serve until November 20, 2006.  Commissioner Albion will leave November 7 due to requirements of his run for state office. 

Throughout the years, both have chaired the Board of County Commissioners and Port Authority, and served as liaisons to the Tourist Development Council and Horizon Council, as well as numerous other organizations and agencies. 

During his tenure, Commissioner St. Cerny was closely involved with the growth and development of Florida Gulf Coast University and has served as the Board's liaison to the University since its inception.  Commissioner Albion took the lead on Southwest Florida transportation issues, including the variable pricing initiative and program on the county's toll bridges.  And both participated closely with the expansion of Southwest Florida International Airport.
