Beach Renourishment Contractor/Firm for Road Widening

BOARD APPROVES BEACH RENOURISHMENT CONTRACTOR/DESIGN FIRM FOR ROAD WIDENING
 
FORT MYERS, Fla. (October 10, 2006) – The Board of Lee County Commissioners today approved the following items during its regular weekly meeting.  They are: 

Beach Renourishment – Awarded the Gasparilla Island Beach Renourishment Project to Weeks Marine, Inc. for the lump sum amount of $11,224,500 (Federal share $4,456,127, State share $3,909,493, County share $2,858,880).  This contract is for a period of one hundred and fifty (150) days for final completion.  To learn more about the project, visit http://www.lee-county.com/NaturalResources/Beaches/Autopage_T18_R3.htm.

Road Widening – Ranked HDR Engineering as the number one firm to design the widening of Homestead Road in Lehigh Acres.  The consultant will develop the alignment/right-of-way requirements and roadway design plans to widen Homestead Road to a four lane roadway (expandable to six) from south of Sunrise Blvd. to north of Alabama Road.  The $13.9 million project is schedule for completion around 2010.
