LeeTran Celebrates Communities in Motion Day with Free Rides
Sep 27, 2006 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE SEPTEMBER 27, 2006 LEETRAN CELEBRATES COMMUNITIES IN MOTION DAY WITH FREE RIDES FORT MYERS, FL – National Communities in Motion Day on Thursday, October 5 will be marked in Lee County with free rides on all LeeTran buses and trolleys, and prize drawings for that day's passengers. "Communities in Motion Day showcases the importance of public transportation for people from all walks of life. For many people it is literally a lifeline to their schools, jobs, doctors and communities," said Steve Myers, LeeTran's Transit Director. From the first bus that rolls out of the yard in the morning until the last trolley is parked for the night, anyone who boards a LeeTran vehicle on October 5 will pay no fare. Travelers may ride as many times as they wish. Each time they board, they'll receive an entry form which can be deposited in the on-board contest boxes. Entries will be drawn randomly to win prizes like a vacation at the Outrigger Beach Resort, a half day spa package, Miami Dolphins tickets, and more. "This is the perfect day for new riders to give us a try," said Myers. "We'd like everyone to consider using public transportation at least occasionally, because it saves fuel, reduces congestion, and is a much safer way to travel than in single-occupancy vehicles." To prepare for October 5, riders can obtain route maps and schedules by visiting LeeTran's website at www.rideleetran.com, or they may stop by the Rosa Parks Transportation Center, 2250 Peck St. in downtown Fort Myers, for literature and personal help in planning their travels. For more information, call LeeTran at 533-8726 (LEE-TRAN). Communities in Motion Day is sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA).
