National Estuaries Days 2006

. . . an annual celebration of the majestic places where rivers meet the sea.

The Charlotte Harbor National Estuary Program is pleased to announce National Estuaries Days – a time to highlight the importance of estuaries. The official National Estuary Day is Saturday, September 30, but CHNEP is pleased that again too many recreational and educational activities opportunities will be offered locally to fit in one day! The 29 special events, wading trips, guided walks, boat and paddling tours, wading trips and clean-ups are opportunities to learn about estuaries by experiencing them first hand. The events are coordinated, and sometimes sponsored, by CHNEP but are offered because of the generosity of the program's partners. Charlotte Harbor National Estuary Program is a partnership program working to protect the natural environment from Venice to Estero Bay to Winter Haven.

Attached and posted on the website www.CHNEP.org are details of these 29 special events, wading trips, guided walks, boat and paddling tours, wading trips and clean-ups to celebrate our local estuaries in Sarasota, Charlotte, Lee and DeSoto counties. The "signature event" will be the Charlotte Harbor Regional Nature Festival that'll be held Saturday, October 7 in Port Charlotte. Most of the events are free but some have a nominal charge to support the organization offering the event. Please help spread the word. Thanks.
