Commissioners Sign Local State of Emergency Due to Tropical Storm Ernesto

September 8, 2006 

Today, Board of Lee County Commissioners Vice Chairman Bob Janes signed a State of Local Emergency to address lingering flooding problems resulting from the rainfall Lee County received from - and following - Tropical Storm Ernesto. 

The State of Local Emergency is limited to providing emergency repairs for emergency vehicle access to the following roads: Dosante, Henderson Grade, Sharon, Jamie and Ethel. 

Lee County Emergency Management, DOT and Fire Service staff will continue to monitor and access high water conditions on other roadways in accordance with current protocols, but for now emergency road work to non-county maintained roads will only be done on the five listed roads.  Also authorized is emergency work to clear obstructions in waterways in the Bayshore area to improve conveyance of storm water runoff. 

The South Florida Water Management District will also be assisting the County in improving drainage conveyance in waterlogged areas by removing obstructions in Hickey Creek.
