WARNING TO BOATERS

BOATERS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PASS UNDER ANY PART OF BRIDGE A OF THE SANIBEL CAUSEWAY (the drawbridge)

on Wednesday, September 13, 2006 from approx 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Wednesday, September 20, 2006 from approx 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Fort Myers, FL, September 7, 2006 - On Wednesday, September 13, 2006 from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Wednesday, September 20, 2006 from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. construction crews will be setting the center span girders for Bridge A, the new bridge adjacent to the drawbridge. This activity is taking place in the channel and will be hazardous to the boating traffic. For the safety of the public and the workers, on both days the channel will be closed between the above hours.

There will be a safety zone established around the channel, no boaters will be allowed within 500' of the work zone and the coastguard will enforce this.  BOATERS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PASS UNDER ANY PART OF BRIDGE A (the drawbridge), as the wake is dangerous to the workers.

It is imperative that boaters use an alternative route such as Bridge C (the bridge next to Sanibel which has 26 foot vertical clearance) to pass through to open water.  Boats that are too large to pass beneath Bridge C will need to use an alternative route such as Boca Grande Pass.

On September 13, 2006 after setting the permanent girders for Bridge THE VERTICAL CLEARANCE FOR THE CHANNEL WILL BE PERMANENTLY SET TO 70-FEET  AT MEAN HIGH WATER.  Vessels requiring a higher vertical clearance than this must find an alternative route.

We appreciate your patience and consideration to this safety issues during this brief inconvenience.
