FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SPEAKER AVAILABLE ON BLUEWAY/WATERWAYS/BOATING TOPICS

FORT MYERS, Fla. (September 1, 2006) – Betsy Clayton, longtime boating columnist for The News-Press, has joined Lee County Parks & Recreation as its waterways and blueway coordinator and is available for speaking engagements at civic groups, boating clubs and other organizations.

She can speak on a variety of water-related topics, including the Great Calusa Blueway, recreational boating – powerboating, sailing, paddlesports – and marine/boating industry trends.

Clayton, 38, a Pine Island resident, has been writing about boating for the last 13 years. Among the duties in her new post, she is responsible for maintenance of and marketing for the Great Calusa Blueway, a 100-mile marked paddling trail from Bonita Springs to Charlotte Harbor via Estero Bay, Pine Island Sound and Matlacha Pass. Blueway details can be found at www.greatcalusablueway.com. Another leg of the blueway is planned for the Caloosahatchee River and its tributaries in 2007.

"Lee County is fortunate to have 233 square miles of inland waters. I encourage everyone to come out – or at least to hear about – the fun Southwest Florida boating and paddling have to offer," Clayton said.
