Lee's Residential Permits Drop in July
Aug 2, 2006 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE FORT MYERS Fla. (Aug. 2, 2006) – The pace of single-family residential building continued to slow in unincorporated Lee County in July. However, due to commercial construction and remodeling, the overall value of all building permits issued so far this year has kept up with last year's pace. Lee County Community Development issued 583 building permits for single-family houses in July. That's down 174 or 23 percent from last month's 757. It's also down 138 permits or 19 percent compared to July 2005. The total value of July single-family residential construction is $166 million, down 23 percent from $215 million last month. The value is up about 2 percent from $162 million last year. About 63 percent of the single-family home permits were for construction in Lehigh Acres, valued at a total of $86 million. So far this year, Lee County issued 30,969 building permits for a total value of $2.7 billion, the same as last year's seven-month value. The totals include unincorporated Lee County, City of Bonita Springs and the Town of Fort Myers. Both Bonita Springs and Fort Myers Beach contract with the county for permitting services. Single family permitting for the last three years is: 2004 2006 Lee County Community Development oversees planning, zoning, and development services such as permitting, development review, code enforcement and building inspections in the unincorporated areas of the county and for Bonita Springs and Fort Myers Beach.
