Safeguarding Our Environment For Over 15 Years!

FORT MYERS, Fla. (July 18, 2006) – Another much anticipated Household Chemical Waste and Electronic Collection will be held by the Lee County Solid Waste Division on July 22nd  at the Public Works Annex on SE 16th Place in Cape Coral, Florida. Gates will open at 8 AM and close at 2 PM.

Interested residents may bring old and unwanted paint, thinners, polishers/strippers, drain cleaners, pool chemicals, pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers, automotive fluids, car and boat batteries, fluorescent tubes, ammunition and flares, propane gas tanks, anything labeled corrosive, poison, flammable, corrosive or explosive.  Empty paint cans, empty pool chemical containers and other empty chemical containers need to be disposed of in the regular household garbage.  Please do not bring these to the collection.

Additionally, computers, monitors, keyboards, mice, printers, scanners, fax machines, copiers, televisions, stereos, VCR's, cell phones, and other electronic devices are collected.  All items are accepted whether in working or non-working condition.

This collection is strictly for residential households!  For the safety of the residents we ask that smoking material is extinguished when entering the facility and that residents remain in their vehicles during the unloading process.

In order to ensure the safety of the patrons and staff during a thunderstorm that produces lightning within a one (1) mile radius of the collection site, the collection will be suspended until lightning no longer represents a threat.  Should a weather condition warrant the temporary closure of the collection site, the Solid Waste Division will contact the local media and post a sign at the gate.

Remember to please keep our environment save and clean by keeping all these materials out of our normal solid waste stream! Keep recyclable material out of the regular household garbage cans use your recycling bin to recycle glass, plastic, steel and aluminum containers as well as all paper including junk-mail, cardboard and fiberboard!

The next Household Chemical Waste Collection is scheduled for September 23rd at Page Field.

Thanks for your participation.
