June is Animal Services' highest intake month for cats due to kitten season and the shelter is in desperate need of newspapers to line the cat cages. In June of 2005 Animal Services took in 1,033 cats and as of June 22 of 2006 has already taken in over 700 cats. Anyone who can donate newspapers is asked to bring them to the shelter at 5600 Banner Drive in Fort Myers, next door to the Lee County Sheriff's Office off Six Mile Cypress Parkway. Due to the increase the shelter has reduced the cat adoption fee for June to $20, regularly $50.
